How does clinical nutrition work?
Nutrition = set of complicated processes by which we break down food for the nutrients that we need
Many of today’s major health problems - high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, overweight/obesity, stroke, cancer, and a host of other conditions - often come from poor nutrition. Sometimes we just want to feel better overall. Clinical nutrition addresses disease prevention and health maintenance by providing guidance and care for optimal eating, drinking, and thriving. This unique approach is modified to meet your specific needs for overall improved wellbeing.
Improving nutrition is an ongoing process. We will first meet to assess your needs, then we will work together to create plans and discuss options. It’s important to know that you are the best guide for your own health, because you know you better than anyone else does. I will provide information, educational materials, support, and follow-up care tailored for just you.
Better health can begin with good nutrition.

Hello! I'm Dr. Erica Watson, and I'm happy to "meet" you (however I certainly look forward to talking with you live). I am a doctor of health science in both clinical health and clinical nutrition. I have a masters degree in biology and a graduate certificate in emerging infectious diseases. I'm also a certified nutrition coach, and I'm trained in trauma-informed learning and healing.
When I was growing up, I planted, climbed, and yes, hugged a lot of trees. I was known for being "wise beyond my years." This is where we get the title for "WiseTree Health Connections." I discovered at a young age that I had a good eye for understanding disease processes, and for finding and fixing errors. I also had this really natural way of fully supporting and encouraging others, so as an adult I pursued science, health, and medicine. I truly enjoy discovering what needs attention, then collaborating to create ways to address those needs.
I thrive on helping people by using nutrition as a tool for health and healing, and by offering my strengths as a provider, a scientist, and an educator. These tools took years of development, education, and leadership, and I get to share them with you now. Today I invite you to work with me for your best health outcomes. Come join me, and let's get started!

July 2025 Thoughts:
OK, listen: things are growing. Trees, flowers, mushrooms, vegetables...they're all growing. What should we do?
We should eat the safe food products from these growing wonderfulnesses. We should pick and eat fruit from trees, sprinkle edible flowers on our soups, sauté mushrooms with thyme and garlic, and chop up and dressing-slather all of the vegetables that we can. We should compost any of these unprocessed foods that we don't end up eating, too.
Speaking of dressings! Did you know you could make a salad dressing from "we usually throw this away" ingredients? Yes. Yes you can. Here's one way to accomplish this:
Use the water that your tofu is packed in; simmer it down with miso, tahini, garlic powder, maple syrup, and black pepper until it's as condensed as you like. Cool it to whatever temp you prefer, then use this dressing on a chopped salad.
In the meantime, please try to eat what's best for you. Here at WiseTree Health Connections you're heard, taken care of, and encouraged. Please scroll down to to schedule an appointment today!
In health,
Dr. Watson

Nutrition is more than eating and drinking "the right way." It involves knowing and listening to our bodies; understanding how external factors influence us; and learning about the science and emotion of humanness. It also requires that we pay attention to what Earth sends us, such as produce, ocean-based foods, and water.
